Farm info

Thássio Aguiar e Souza is the third generation of coffee farmers in his family. The tradition of coffee growing started with his grandparents, who then motivated his parents, and, with much effort and labor, bought their own land together with fellow coffee producers. Later, Thássio was born and then raised in this environment of struggle and determination, where he learned to manage a coffee farm and carry out the necessary tasks to run it. Fazenda Taquaruna is located in the Boa Vista community of Alto Caparaó and 8 of its 9 hectares are planted with coffee.

With his mother’s help, Thássio has dedicated himself to producing quality coffees, a natural focus given the favorable elevations of the region and his attention to each phase of production. Thássio’s love for his work inspires him to continue dedicating himself to coffee agriculture, fulfilling his dreams of his father Theócrito, who has passed away but was devoted to coffee his entire life.

Region

Matas de Minas

The Matas de Minas coffee region is in the southeastern part of the Minas Gerais state, just over the border from Espirito Santo, with Alto Caparaó as its most recognized municipality.

With a distinct topography featuring rugged mountain terrains and large variations in elevation (between 400 and 1100 meters above sea level), Matas de Minas makes a perfect region for growing specialty coffees. Because of its specific features, special care is taken in growing all the crops of the region. Coffee is harvested manually to select for only the most mature beans, the plants are planted with a wider spacing and to receive a more sunlight, only treated water is used for washing and pulping the beans, and drying is done meticulously and carefully. Together, these factors favor the production of the highest quality coffees, full-bodied and with great nuances in both aroma and flavors.
