Farm info

Edvaldo dos Reis was born and grew up in Lambari, a city of the Mantiqueira region of Sul de Minas, and there accompanied his parents in the arduous work of coffee growing. His passion for coffee growing comes from this legacy and he learned all he knows about coffee cultivation from his parents. After much effort and dedication he was able to buy his own coffee property.

Edvaldo counts with the support of his wife and her family in the work of caring for and harvesting coffee. The whole family works together and is always looking for more efficient methods of production without degrading the environment with the goal of improving the quality of their work.

Even in the face of various difficulties—the falling market, rising costs, and unpredictabe climate—Edvaldo is always motivated to achieve quality coffee production and offer the best beans for his clients.

The total area of the farms 6.8 hectares are planted with coffee, which flowers in September and October. Sítio São Domingos produces an annual average of 250 bags.

Region

Sul de Minas

Southern Minas Gerais is one of Brazil’s most productive coffee producing areas. This region has grown Arabica coffee since the 1850s and is characterized by rolling hills, a mild climate averaging 23° C, and high elevations. While some of the largest coffee producing properties in Brazil are located in Sul de Minas, more than half of the region’s producers are small to medium-sized farms. Sul de Minas accounts for, on average, 30% of Brazil’s coffee production.

The mountainous terrain, reaching up to 1400 meters above sea level, is ideally suited for growing coffee and Sul de Minas has increased production quality through investments in infrastructure and sustainability measures. The most commonly cultivated varieties are Yellow Catuai and Novo Mundo, with some farms also growing Icatu, Obatã and Red Catuai. Most of the coffee produced is processed as Natural and the final cup profiles are full bodied, with low acidity and fruity aromas.
